Web User Interface

The Helmholtz Knowledge Graph web user interface (Web UI) is a browser-based platform for discovering and exploring digital research assets across the Helmholtz Association. It brings together datasets, publications, software, and related resources in a single place - making them easier to find, connect, and reuse.

The Web UI is designed to be as intuitive as possible while providing access to a large and complex underlying graph. To make this data accessible, certain abstractions and adjustments are applied. The following pages explain how the information presented in the UI relates to the underlying Knowledge Graph, how specific interface elements behave, and how to effectively navigate and explore the data.

The documentation covers the following topics:

  • UI Categories: Explains which types of entities are available in the interface and how they relate to the semantic model of the Helmholtz KG.
  • Filtering: Describes the available filters, their behavior, and how they influence the displayed data.
  • Link Behavior: Explains how linked data is represented in the UI, including internal navigation between entities and different part of the infrastructure, as well as external links to entities on the web.
  • View Cards: Describes the different card-based views used throughout the interface, including what information they display and how they relate to the underlying graph.
